Extension Activity of the Week: 20

This week: Feeling Summary Yet?

For this activity, you will need to provide students with a relevant newspaper or magazine article, or perhaps a page from a higher-level text book. Ask pupils to summarise the information provided.

There are a few ways you could do this -

1. Pick out the words that seem to be used to most in the text, in 30 seconds, to provide a hint at what the subject of it is.
2. Summarise each paragraph in 10 words or less.
3. Create 3 bullet points to cover the most important information shared in the article.
4. Write an abstract to summarise the entire content for another reader.

This will encourage students to speed read and develop their note taking skills, no matter what their level or ability.
